Education & Experience

Antony read Philosophy and Politics at The University of York before completing the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School, where he majored in the criminal liability of companies and individual senior managers. He then undertook the Post Graduate Certificate in Trade Mark Law and Practice at Queen Mary University, London and is now completing the Professional Certificate in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Law School. Antony has also completed the Trade Mark Administrator and Paralegals course run by CITMA.

Antony joined the profession working for a firm of Trade Mark Attorneys which had been established for over 60 years. He has been part of the Trade Mark Wizards® team since its inception and advises on all aspects of trade mark law, including trade mark clearances, the registration of trade marks, trade mark prosecution, oppositions, non-use revocation proceedings, invalidity actions, online brand enforcement and UDRP domain name proceedings. In addition, Antony also advises on assignments, licensing agreements and co-existence agreements as well as confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.

Trade mark achievements

Since entering the world of trade marks, Antony has been involved in many different types of disputes from simple opposition proceedings to reverse domain name hijacking cases.

One of his most notable achievements was safeguarding a client from a claim of trade mark infringement by locating and acquiring an earlier trade mark registration, reviving the unused registration through the negotiation and procurement of licensing agreements and then utilising the newly acquired trade mark to bring the original action against the client to a definite close.

What do clients say about Antony?

Clients describe Antony as: “succinct and straight to the point when explaining legal and commercial issues”. He is often praised for his “sound analytical judgement, especially when under pressure” and his “tendency not to give up easily”.

What Antony enjoys about the trade mark profession?

“One thing I enjoy about trade marks is the way they give all businesses, regardless of their size, the ability to protect and enforce their commercial identity and the investment that they have made building up their brand against infringing third parties in a straightforward, cost-effective and convenient manner”.

What kind of trade mark work does Antony enjoy?

“I really enjoy prosecuting applications, oppositions, revocation and invalidity actions. In particular, I enjoy the challenges involved in carrying out global assessments of trade marks and their specifications in order to determine whether a likelihood of confusion exists in the marketplace. I also like helping clients secure favourable settlements during disputes through amicable negotiation or if need be, more assertive litigation tactics”.

What bit of advice would Antony give to all business if he had the chance?

“Endeavour to secure your trade mark registration early-on, both in your principal places of business and your place of manufacture. Without a registration, the commercial and financial implications involved in bringing legal proceedings against copycat traders and counterfeiters can be significant, especially in the emerging markets.”

What does he like about Trade Mark Wizards®?

“The firm has such a diverse client base and assists all businesses to secure intellectual property protection, regardless of their size, location or industry. I particularly like the firm’s diverse client base and the way in which it has given the firm such a broad range of expertise across all commercial sectors and such an exciting and varied case load”.
