Experience & education

Damien’s experience lies predominantly in a commercial IP vein. He completed a Law degree at the London School of Economics. After that, he acquired work experience placements in two start-ups specialising in SEO and Digital Film distribution services. After that he completed a legal internship at the Global Trade Marks Department of one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. The industries Damien has experience in include pharmaceuticals, IT, food & beverage, fashion, sports, tech and media.

He has completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Trade Mark Law and Practice at Queen Mary University, London and will be starting the Professional Certificate in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Law School in September 2018 to qualify as a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney. Damien has also completed the Trade Mark Administrator and Paralegals course run by CITMA.

The world of trade marks is truly unique in the sense that it is a great cross between commercial, legal and marketing functions. Ultimately, working in trade mark law is like no other field of law. As a brand protection advisor, you are protecting an essential communication tool between a business and its’ customers and it is very important protection for businesses to have. If anything, it is a must!

What kind of trade mark work does Damien enjoy?

Damien enjoys every stage of the application process, from giving pre-registration advice, drafting trade mark specifications, responding to Examination Reports, to getting involved in opposition and other types of disputes. He particularly enjoys the negotiation process with opponents and adversaries to form co-existence agreements.

What bit of advice would Damien give to all businesses if he had the chance?

Do not wait until you have a problem to start registering your brand!

Damien plays badminton and he is a freelance musician. He plays the saxophone and loves playing in front of large audiences.

As a child, what did Damien want to do when he grows up?

Damien wanted to be a conductor. He always imagined it would feel like conjuring music out of thin air.
